BAPTISM

Holy Baptism is one of the two sacraments in the Lutheran tradition and exists primarily to proclaim the grace of God that we know in Jesus Christ. It is in the Word and water of baptism that we are declared children of God and members of the community of God’s people. Baptism initiates a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus that will bloom and grow into maturity.

Prairie Lutheran Church is a community committed to nurturing the faith of the baptized through opportunities for worship, learning, service, giving, and prayer. Prairie strives to encourage and equip parents as they raise their children in an active and confident faith in Jesus Christ.

COMMUNION

At Prairie Lutheran Church, all people who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior are welcome to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Communion is regularly served on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. We offer wine or grape juice, and regular or gluten-free wafers.

Mark your calendar: communion classes are coming! As Lutherans, we believe that all are welcome to the table. Because of this, there is no prescribed age for a child to receive their first communion. It is up to families to decide when kids partake. That said, we do think it is important for kids to receive some formal education around the wonderful gift of God’s grace received through Holy Communion! If you would like your student to begin taking communion, or if your child is already taking communion but hasn’t yet taken a class, you are welcome to join us! We will meet for 3 Wednesdays during Lent from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM: 3/1, 3/9, and 3/16. A parent should plan to be present for the first class, on March 1. Dinner will be provided afterwards as part of our Lenten programing, as well as a hands-on worship service at 7 PM. Students will mark the end of their learning by receiving communion on Maundy Thursday, April 6, at our 7 PM worship. To register your child for this class, please email Pastor Ashley at pastorashley@plcchurch.org We look forward to learning together!

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is the Lutheran tradition and is the Affirmation of Baptism. At Prairie Lutheran, we ask youth to affirm the promises made at baptism, the same promises families made in having their child baptized. Although we mark this as a one time event for 9th graders in November each year, Affirmation of Baptism is something we should do on a regular basis, Luther would argue everyday.

At Prairie Lutheran, Confirmation classes are offered to 7th, 8th and 9th graders, and the goal is for them to study the Old Testament, New Testament, and Luther’s Small Catechism. To learn more about Confirmation, contact the church office at info@plcchurch.org.
