Lent at Prairie

Join us as we observe the Lenten season here at PLC. There are opportunities to be involved on Sundays and Wednesdays; all the info you need is here!

Join us for Ash Wednesday Worship on Wednesday, February 14 at 7 PM. We will enter the season of Lent together, receive ashes to remember how we were created, and reflect on the ways we can tune our hearts to God's during this journey to Easter.

On Sundays during Lent, we’ll be exploring the story of Peter. Peter was Jesus’s go-to disciple. He was bold and often acted impulsively. He had deep faith but also moments of deep doubt. At times he “got it,” and at other times he was a bit clueless. Throughout it all, Jesus never gave up on him. Throughout it all, Jesus loved him, called him, and continued to walk with him.

Our theme is “Wandering Heart,” and has been curated by A Sanctified Art. Each week, we’ll explore a different story of Peter, finding ourselves reflected in his actions and attitudes. And each week we’ll meet Jesus--who never leaves us or gives up on us.

There are several additional ways to engage in our theme throughout the season of Lent. At the Info Desk, you can pick up a weekly devotional, which provides an opportunity for deeper reflection and personal study. You can also pick up a set of daily devotional cards, which offer a centering practice, question to reflect on, and prayer for each day of the Lenten season. Also be on the lookout for art that will adorn our space and help us enter into Peter’s story in a visual way.

We hope you’ll join us on Sunday mornings in Lent. There’s a place for you here!

On Wednesdays during Lent, we’ll be exploring a variety of images for God that are rooted in Scripture. Our theme, “God the What?” will help us discover and reflect on the various ways in which God acts and moves in our lives, and the metaphors we can use to understand God and God’s love for us more deeply. We’ll be exploring images you’ve most likely heard of before--like God the Potter--along with new images, like God the Seamstress!

Each Wednesday evening we meet, a soup dinner will be provided. After dinner in the Great Hall, we’ll move to the Sanctuary for worship. Our worship will include the beautiful Holden Evening Prayer (a sung liturgy), a brief reflection on the nightly theme, and an activity or hands-on way to explore the theme further. Dinner will be served from 5:45-6:30 PM, and worship will start at 6:30 PM. Here is the schedule for our Wednesday services. We hope to see you there!

February 21--God the Potter

February 28--God the Laboring Woman and Nursing Mother

March 6--God the Seamstress

March 13--God the Flame

Join us for Holy Week, as we mark the final days of Jesus' life, his death, and his resurrection! All of these services are powerful and bear witness to God's good news in Jesus Christ.
